Marius Pop's five-year-old Pearl District patisserie Nuvrei (best known for its macarons, pretzel croissants, and cafe sandwiches) has expanded, going underground. The Macaron Bar takes over Nuvrei's downstairs kitchen space, offering a case dedicated to the Parisian confections — plus fresh-from-the-oven croissants, available every hour from opening until 2p.m.
The limited-menu (and cash-only) Macaron Bar is designed for a grab-and-go experience in the mornings: Those looking for breakfast can pair two kinds of house-made hot croissants (plain and Valrhona Araguani dark chocolate) with a cup of Heart Coffee or Foxfire Tea. For the macaron connoisseur, the spot will offer all of Nuvrei's familiar macaron flavors — raspberry, salted caramel, Earl grey — priced individually or by-the-box; upstairs, meanwhile, Nuvrei's complete cafe menu is available, business as usual.
The Macaron Bar is open now. Hours of operation: 9a.m. to 4p.m., Wednesday through Friday; 9a.m. to 5p.m., Saturday and Sunday.
