MONTAVILLA— The Montavilla neighborhood is getting its first brewery. The New School brings first word that Montavilla Brew Works will set up shop inside the long-vacant, 1,600-square-food Daugherty Auto Service building. Homebrewer Michael Kora is behind the project, and plans for a tasting room where guests are encouraged to bring in outside food. Projected opening: summer 2014. [New School]
VARIOUS LOCATIONS— The scoopers at Salt & Straw embrace Valentine's Day expectations for its February specials menu, pairing with local chocolatiers for an all-chocolate assault. Starting tomorrow, flavors like Bacon Raleigh Bar (inspired by Xocolatl de David's signature bar), Peruvian Pisco and Chocolate (a sorbet featuring Woodblock's Peruvian-origin chocolate), and Boozy Bon Bon (with Alma Chocolate, Madeira wine, and rum-soaked prunes).
