Joe Biden Dines in Belltown; Gluten-free Bakery Opens on Capitol Hill

Welcome to CascadiaWire, a weekly collection of restaurant news from up-and-down the Pacific Northwest corridor.

STARWATCH -- Vice President Joe Biden swung through Seattle earlier this week, and he dined at Belltown's Assaggio, ordered puttanesca, and told a reporter "it was delicious." Thrilling stuff.

OPENING REPORT -- Capitol Hill is now home to a gluten-free bakery. Nuflours serves mini quiches, hand pies, empanadas, muffins and more, plus coffee from Caffe Vita and Conduit. The Phinney Ridge neighborhood will soon be home to Modern, a sushi and izakaya restaurant that will also serve homemade wagashi -- Japanese traditional sweets -- in the mornings.

COMING ATTRACTIONS -- Fans of the former Book Bindery (which reopened last week as Hommage) have been anxiously awaiting word on cpdx.eater.com/tags/CascadiaWirehef Shaun McCrain's next project. McCrain departed Book Bindery last spring with partner Jill Kinney to start a new venture but has been tight-lipped about the project until a few days ago. His new restaurant will be called Copine and will serve "refined cuisine." That's about all he's saying for now.
