Just in time for soaking up the last of the warm, early-autumn sun, Hi-Wheel Wine & Mead's 30-seat tasting room has opened today in the Woodlawn neighborhood, sharing the spacious well-appointed patio with Tamale Boy. Though he's not producing his own mead yet, owner Ken Bonnin, Jr. will have all four favors of his "Fizzy Wines" on tap, which hover around 7% ABV and come in grapefruit, ginger lemon, lavender lemon and lime habanero flavors. Expect hard cider, a couple local beers, and mead from neighboring Fringe Meadery to occupy the rest of the taps.
Hi-Wheel Wine & Mead: 6719 N.E. 18th Ave., Portland; Noon to 9 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.
