Next Monday, Nov. 3, Fat Head's Brewery will throw open the doors to its Pearl District brewpub.
This is the third out-of-state location for the Ohio-based brewery, and it's one of a growing number of pubs making a home in the Pearl district, including Bend's 10 Barrel Brewing, which is aiming to open by year's end.
The New School reports that Fat Head's, which recently won a gold medal at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival in the German-Style Wheat Ale category, will brew all its beer in house, and there will be a focus on local ingredients and beers specific to Portland, such as a Zoobomb Dortmunder, named after the quintessentially Portland Zoobomb bike ride.
The 42 rotating taps will also feature beers from guest breweries from all over, and the 278-seat restaurant will offer a Midwestern-skewed, comfort-food menu based on lots of meat and big portions. Case in point: The South Side Slopes, a sandwich made of kielbasa, pierogies, cheese, grilled onions and horseradish sauce that was crowned No. 5 in the nation by Maxim magazine. Sandwiches are priced in the $10 to $12 range. There will be concessions for vegetarians and gluten-free diners, but those on a diet may be out of luck.
