El Gallo Taqueria, a beloved five-year-old food cart in the parking lot of The Joinery on SE Woodstock Boulevard, is moving into permanent digs just a few blocks away.
Renovations have already begun on the tiny 420-square-foot space, which will adhere to Energy Trust of Oregon's sustainability and green building standards. This comes as no surprise to those who know the cart, which was deemed one of the most sustainable by the Portland Business Journal. It's outfitted with energy efficient appliances and owner Jake Brown sources most of his ingredients each day from local farms and nearby farmers markets.
The new space will bring seating, of course, plus longer hours of operation and an expanded menu. Right now the cart is tightly focused on classic $2.50 tacos and breakfast burritos stuffed with chorizo and eggs. Brown will keep the cart open in its usual spot at 4804 SE Woodstock Blvd. until the restaurant opens in February 2015.
El Gallo Taqueria (coming Feb. 2015): 4422 S.E. Woodstock Blvd.
