The block around Podnah's is fast becoming a culinary oasis. Earlier this month, Tea Bar opened in the newly renovated One-Stop building (named for the music store that once occupied the space). Now, Prospect Bottleshop & Bar has joined the crowd.
Adam Hobbs, one of the partners in 1856 Bottleshop, which is coincidentally just steps from the original Podnah's location on NE Prescott, partnered with entrepreneur Laurent Albouze to open Prospect next door to Tea Bar, providing the area with another option for a neighborhood watering hole.
"We both also live in the neighborhood and wanted to create a place like Prospect for us to enjoy with our community," Hobbs says.
There are five craft beers on draft, one tap dedicated to cider, plus a handful of wines by the glass. You can also buy something from the wall of coolers to drink there or take home. Most options are local, but there's a well-curated selection from U.S. and international producers. And monthly wine, beer, and cider tastings are on the horizon.
If you're hungry, there's a small selection of meat and cheese boards, or you can bring food in from somewhere else with no guilt or shame. You can even bring your dog. Basically, it's just like home, except with way better booze options.
Prospect Bottleshop & Bar: 1611 NE Killingsworth St., Portland; Hours: Open daily from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.; 541-619-1130
