Update: Eater talked to Micah Camden, who says Blue Star's expansion plans have been exaggerated. We've got details here.
Apparently, if you're a Portland purveyor of fanciful fried dough, Japan's got a deal for you.
Katie Poppe and Micah Camden, owners of Blue Star Donuts, have confirmed to Willamette Week that they are partnering with upscale department store Fred Segal to open a Blue Star Donuts location in their Tokyo flagship in 2015. This news comes just two weeks after Voodoo Doughnut announced its own Asian expansion, promising 12 to 20 locations in Japan and Taiwan.
More important for Portlanders, however, is the news that the Camden-Poppe duo plan to open more Portland-area shops next year, including NW 23rd and Lake Oswego.
They also plan to start offering donut deliveries in February through Caviar restaurant delivery service, a SF-based company set to launch in Portland. They might expand this option to some of their other restaurants, including Son of a Biscuit and Boxer Ramen.
