After a soft opening last night, Fire and Stone, the new wood-fired venture from Jeff Smalley (former baker at Grand Central and New Seasons), officially opens its doors for dinner tonight.
The menu features a small selection of salads, Italian appetizers like arancini, and entrees like roast chicken and braised shortribs. But the half-dozen or so pizzas are the stars. The crust is built on Smalley's levain dough and properly blistered in the wood oven by Ken's Artisan Pizza alum Joey Alvarez.
The interior is designed and kitted out with custom-made wood booths and charred wood accents by local woodworker Caleb Remmerde. The transformation is so complete it's almost hard to remember what the former market used to look like.
