Learn How to Make a Proper Punch

Company's coming, and they don't want to suffer through bad drinks.

There's more to a good cocktail than using good booze. Proportions are key. As are things like temperature, ice, garnishes, glasses. Think about it. No one gets too excited over a Solo cup of orange juice and vodka, even top-shelf vodka. It's time to grow up.

So with the holiday season's crush of parties upon us, now's the time to learn how to make delicious drinks you can be proud of.

Punch Class at Teardrop Lounge: On Sunday Dec. 14, bartender Sean Hoard and owner Daniel Shoemaker, who are also the duo behind the Commissary line of cocktail ingredients, will teach you how to make a proper punch so you can serve anywhere from 10 to 100 people with ease. Cost is $50 per person. To reserve a spot, email: info@teardroplounge.com.

Apéritif Class at Elephants Deli: The selection of apéritifs available in Portland has exploded in recent years, but many of us don't know how to put them to their best use. Elephants Deli, which carries a selection that includes Cocchi Americano, Dolin Blanc, Bonal, and Cardamaro, will teach guests how to use them in holiday and classic cocktails. The free event is on Saturday, December 20th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the flagship location on NW 22nd avenue.
