NORTHEAST/WOODLAWN— Ring the alarm: Firehouse chef Matthew Busetto will team with Calabria, Italy winery Ippolito 1845 for a multi-course pairing dinner next Monday, February 10. Busetto will serve a five-course meal family-style, featuring an antipasti-filled starter course (octopus with lemon and olive oil, pork meatballs), and dishes like chicken soup with goat cheese dumplings and a pasta with lamb ragu. Winemaker Vicenzo Ippolito will pair each course with an appropriate wine; reservations are $70 and available by calling 503-954-1702.
ST. JOHNS— North Portland's the Baowry combines its Asian food with an unexpected partner — German and Austrian wine — in a special pairing dinner Sunday, February 9. The four-course dinner will feature eight different wines by Ewald Moseler Selections: ponzu-marinated zucchini squash ribbons are paired with two dry Rieslings, while smoked chicken bao buns arrive with two Austrian reds. Reservations are $49 and available by emailing here.
CENTRAL EASTSIDE— J Christopher Wines stops by Simpatica Dining Hall for a special pairing dinner on Saturday, February 8. Chef Ben Shaw will offer four courses — including a wild mushroom cannelloni and a main dish of slow-braised lamb shank — each paired with a selection from the Newberg winery. Reservations are $75 and available by calling 503-235-1600.
FOREST GROVE— This one's a couple weeks away, but a mini road trip requires some extra planning: Nostrana chef Cathy Whims curates an afternoon of feasting at Forest Grove's Montinore Estate on Sunday, February 16, as part of the Maialata festival, a traditional celebration of all things pork. The day-long event features pasta-making classes, butchery, and charcuterie-making with Whims and a slew of guest chefs, including Ned Ludd's Jason French and Italian guests Francesca and Tommaso Tori. Guests at the day-long event get access to the hands-on seminars, Montinore wine, and the day-ending "Grand Feast." Tickets are $165, all-inclusive, and available by calling Montinore at 503-359-5012.
