[Avila, 2/5/14]
The Bunk empire has grown by one more: Bunk Sandwiches officially opened its doors on NE Alberta today, just steps away from fellow line-makers at Salt & Straw and Bollywood Theater (and in the same building that houses Via Chicago). For their northeast outpost (featuring a colorful mural by Meg Adamson), Tommy Habetz, Matt Brown, and Nick Wood have expanded their menu, adding two new salads (a romaine Caesar and a "country club"), a roasted poblano torta, and rotating daily specials. A full bar serves up Bunk Bar's familiar frozen margaritas, shandies, and cheap Rainiers, in addition to an Alberta-only cocktail, a Manhattan salted with Jacobsen Salt. As previously reported, carne asada fries topped with cheese, guac, and smoky salsa have hit the "snacks" menu, which also features Russian fries (topped with Russian dressing and caramelized onion).
The pork belly Cubano purveyors at Bunk currently operate six Portland locations: In addition to its newest on Alberta, Bunk has sandwich shops on SE Morrison and SW 6th, two outposts of Bunk Bar (including a newish one at the Wonder Ballroom), and a counter at Moda Center.
Bunk Alberta is open now, with great news for breakfast sandwich fans. Hours of operation: 8a.m. to 10p.m., Sunday through Thursday; 8a.m. to midnight, Friday and Saturday.
