[Avila, 3/7/14]
1) Southeast/Kerns: Onetime SE Hawthorne food cart Cheese & Crack makes it official at its brick-and-mortar retail space: The Cheese & Crack Snack Shop debuted in the former Black Bike Cafe space right off E. Burnside, serving its eponymous cheese plates with homemade crackers, plus other sweet and savory snacks: a Tails & Trotters ham sandwich with herb butter; potato-chip "nachos" with mornay and pickled lentils; and biscuit sandwiches for breakfast. (There's also a soft-serve ice cream machine.) Co-owners Nathan Hall and Will Steuernagel also offer two beers on tap and nearly a dozen by the bottle, plus eight white, red, and sweet wines by the glass. The Snack Shop is now softly open. Hours of operation: 8a.m. to 8p.m., Wednesday through Sunday. [EaterWire]
2) Pearl District: Locally owned global market World Foods — which takes over the space vacated by the locally owned but not explicitly globally minded Local Choice Market — is now open. The concept, owned by John and Mirna Attar of Barbur World Foods, offers an international grocery, butcher's counter, cheese case, Stumptown-stocked coffee bar, and perhaps most crucially, a bakery and deli case stocked by market chef Brandon Riesgaard and Mirna Attar, who's also the owner of Ya Hala Lebanese Cuisine. Expect cases filled with house-baked baklava and man'oushe breads, made-to-order pizza, and schwarma sandwiches. Hours of operation: 7a.m. to 9p.m., daily. [EaterWire]
3) Division/Clinton: The team behind popular watering holes Gold Dust Meridian and Club 21 have opened their third project, the Western-themed Double Barrel, in the SE Division space formerly known as Seven Corners Bar. The revamped bar now features a geometric-tiled floor, pinball tables, and comfortable clusters of wood-and-leather chairs; the Wild West theme carries over to the food menu: Expect six different kinds of chicken wings, whiskey-grilled asparagus, buttermilk/cornmeal gator bites, plus burgers, blackened catfish sandwiches, and eight beers on tap. Hours of operation: 2p.m. to 2:30a.m. [EaterWire]
