The Portland Development Commission will soon decide whether to spend $1 million in taxpayer money to help fund a brewpub project in the Lents neighborhood, a designated site for the city's urban renewal projects. If approved, Z. Haus Brewing, by the same folks behind Old Town's Pints, will take over the space formerly home to Ararat Bakery, whose move also benefited from PDC funds. Says PDC official Trang Lam: "We've created what we call a 'brewpub desert map.' ... This is something the community wanted. There is a lack of this amenity in Lents."
