[Avila, 3/15/14]
Kurt Huffman's ChefStable group makes it a trifecta on N. Williams with this weekend's debut of two concepts: Frice Pastry, the long-awaited bakery by 2013 Eater Young Gun Alissa Frice (formerly Rozos), and Philippe's Bread, the operation by French baker Philippe Garcia. Both baker's counters share a space with the recently opened Lardo North on N. Williams, providing the sweet counterpart to Rick Gencarelli's savory sandwiches.
Frice serves up familiar treats to those who flocked to the St. Jack patisserie — caneles, macarons, and morning pastries chief among them — but the new Frice counter also includes more composed desserts, like a matcha and yuzu chiboust and chocolate "bombes." On Philippe's side, the bakery churns out baguettes (both for Lardo's sandwiches and for purchase to-go), brioche buns, and other traditional breads. All can be enjoyed with cups of Sterling Roasters coffee.
Both properties are open now. Hours of operation: 7a.m. to 7p.m., daily.
