Food & Wine's now-annual online popularity contest the People's Best New Chef just went live with its 2014 edition, and as to be expected, there are several familiar names in the nominee pool for the Northwest and Pacific regions. Chefs Greg and Gabrielle Quiñónez Denton (Ox), Joshua McFadden (Ava Gene's), Sarah Pliner (Aviary), Scott Snyder (Levant), Johanna Ware (Smallwares), and Justin Woodward (Castagna) are all nominated in a category dominated by Portlanders.
As in previous years, the contest accompanies Food & Wine's annual "Best New Chef" class, considered one of the most prestigious nods in the restaurant industry. As Eater National has pointed out in the past, the list of People's nominees is basically the "long list" from which the final 10 Best New Chefs are selected (nine of the 10 winners in 2013 were also "People's Best New Chef" nominees). The online vote starts today and ends March 31.
