Two Tarts Bakery Opening Palace Cakes Downtown

Elizabeth Beekley, of the diminutive cookie shop/farmer's market favorite Two Tarts Bakery, will soon open a brick-and-mortar location for her spinoff cake bakery Palace Cakes: Eat Beat reports Beekley will open a retail counter at SW 14th Avenue and Yamhill, offering cake by the slice, ice creams, and cupcakes deemed "Buckies." Previously, the cakes were available by special order only, and Beekley's "vintage baking" approach promises the use of simple techniques, no artificial colors, and farmer's market ingredients.

Per Eat Beat, the 748-square-foot space will feature room for 10 seats and offer Courier Coffee service. Beekley has launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the project; she's seeking $10,000 for construction costs. Projected opening: "early summer."
