Mellow Mushroom to Shutter; 10 Barrel Taking Its Spot

The first and only Portland location of unabashedly stoner-friendly pizza joint Mellow Mushroom will close next week, to be replaced by the first and only Portland location of Bend-based brewery 10 Barrel Brewing. 10 Barrel's co-owner Garrett Wales confirmed to multiple sources that an earlier rumor about the muraled-building takeover was true, and the brand briefly announced on Facebook that "We're stoked to let you know we're opening a brewpub in Portland late this Summer."

Wales told the Portland Business Journal that 10 Barrel had been scouting Portland locations for months, and plans a "light renovation" for the Mellow Mushroom space. Mellow Mushroom made its Pearl District debut in October 2011, famously offering 50 beers on tap. 10 Barrel, meanwhile, has locations in Bend and Boise, Idaho, the latter of which opened in April 2013.

An earlier rumor placed MM's final day as April 13. 10 Barrel could open by mid-summer.
