Less than a year after relocating to a more visible space in Hillsdale, Korkage Wine Bar has announced plans to close by the end of June. According to an email announcement (an abbreviated version can be found on Facebook here), owner Tam Boleyn writes that "some changes in our family" have necessitated the closure of Korkage after nearly five years in business: "We no longer have the resources to run Korkage at the scale we desire or to the level that we believe Hillsdale deserves."
Effective immediately, Korkage chef Earl Johnson will scale back to a limited menu (similar to its pre-move menu of small plates), and its wine shop will be offering all bottles on sale, which "our entire inventory available at nearly cost." The Korkage Wine Shop debuted in 2009, moving across the street into the former Three Square Grill space and expanding its menu in September of last year. The official closing date is still nebulous around the end of June, but Boleyn hints at something new already slated for the space: "We look forward to the next iteration of this space — which is readied for something fabulous!"
