The 2014 James Beard Award for Best Chef Northwest belongs to Portland: Naomi Pomeroy (of Beast) was just crowned the winner in a ceremony at Lincoln Center in New York City. In her acceptance speech, Pomeroy thanked her daughter, mentioning the difficult balance between a career as chef and mother, also giving a shoutout to fellow Portland nominee Cathy Whims. "I feel like I'm taking this home for everybody in the Northwest."
Aside from Whims and Pomeroy, the PNW category features three chefs from Seattle: Ethan Stowell, Jason Franey (Canlis), and Renée Erickson (The Whale Wins). Meanwhile, Portland's other major nominee, Clyde Common was bested by NYC's the NoMad in the Outstanding Bar Program category.
