Love Belizean, the acclaimed downtown food cart, has announced plans to open a brick-and-mortar restaurant: The Oregonian is first to spot co-owners Tiffany and Andy Love's just-launched Kickstarter campaign, which announces the Love Belizean restaurant will move into "a small space just one block from our current location." (The SW Broadway space has been home to a mix of bagel shops and hair salons in previous years.)
The Kickstarter campaign seeks $15,000 in funds to help the Loves sign a three-year lease in the location, plus help with build-out. In their campaign text, the Loves write about how the forced closure of their pod at SW Sixth Avenue and Columbia spurred the restaurant search: "We were beginning to think about expanding when we received the bad news... However, after a few days of reflection and thought we decided to look for a brick and mortar location in the neighborhood. We already had a solid customer base and a proven business model. We just needed the opportunity." More information about the Kickstarter campaign here.
