1) SE Hawthorne: Another hybrid market/bottle shop/bar has opened up in Portland, this time on SE Hawthorne: Prettyman's General, named for the early Portland settler credited with literally cutting the path to the present-day Hawthorne Boulevard, offers beer and wine; a pantry stocked with preserves, baked goods, and sauces; and a case for cheese and meat. Those dining-in can open a bottle selected from the shelves — or choose from eight beers on tap — and pair drinks with sandwiches, salads, and pasties (from Pacific Pie Co.). Hours of operation: 11a.m. to 11p.m., daily, with happy hour available from 4-6p.m. More information here. [EaterWire]
2) Central Eastside Industrial: The excellently named bar There Be Monsters opened earlier this month on SE Morrison Street, in the space once home to Hal's Tavern. While the moniker and map theme suggest uncharted territory, the food menu sticks to familiars from British pubs: fish and chips, potted ham served with rye, Plowman's platters (stocked with meat, cheese, and bread), and chicken tikka masala. Hours of operation: 4p.m. to 2a.m., daily. More information here. [EaterWire]

3) Sellwood: Randy Schulman brings Staccato Gelato back to Sellwood-Westmoreland with the opening of Atlas Scoops, an ice-cream cart permanently parked on SE 13th Avenue. According to Schulman — who named the cart for his daughter, Atlas — the scoop shop is stocked with popular Staccato flavors like caramel sea salt, fresh mint chip, and honey lavender, plus seasonal sorbets and optional gluten-free cones. Hours of operation: noon to 9p.m., daily. [EaterWire]
