The New York Times investigates how the humble Mason jar has become the "symbol of hipness" among a certain kind of millennial diner and home cook, perhaps an attempt to reach to the "authentic" habits of the past. According to the CEO of Jarden Home Brands: "It's a natural extension of the idea of participation and creation. I can't create my own iPhone, but I can certainly create my own food."
