Competitive Eating Wire

chicagozachshack150.jpgHow terrible would an amateur competitive eater feel after a hot-dog eating contest? The Portland Mercury sent news reporter Dirk VanderHart to endure the annual event at SE Hawthorne's Zach's Shack, where he downed a respectable eight hot dogs (the winner ate 22). The aftereffects, however, were not pleasant: "Days later, things that shouldn't taste like hot dogs do, I'm wary of bread, and probably there will be lasting health effects. So nice job, everyone."
