In a shocking announcement coming down this morning, the industrial district stalwart Produce Row will close tonight after 40 years in business. In a Facebook post, owner Alan Davis writes: "It is with a heavy heart that we close Produce Row today for an indefinite hiatus. We understand this is a surprise for many and know that we could not be more grateful for all of your support over the last 40 years." The onetime blue-collar bar temporarily closed for a makeover back in 2010, and the new ProRow 2.0 saw crowds flock to its outdoor patio, particularly during the summer months.
Davis tells GoLocalPDX that he's pulling the plug for personal, not financial, reasons: "I can't give Produce Row the time I would like to give it." (Davis also owns the West End's Multnomah Whiskey Library, and according to a rep, the closure comes so "Alan can focus more on his family and regroup to see what's best for the Row.") Produce Row's final evening will be tonight, September 2.
