Elder Hall, Jason French's stylishly old-new event space next to Ned Ludd, is now fully outfitted and ready for action. One of the first items on the agenda: Its first "Food Book Fete" (a reception and book signing) for his friend Renee Erickson. The Seattle chef/owner of The Walrus and the Carpenter, The Whale Wins, Boat Street Cafe, and Boat Street Pickles now adds author to her resume with the release of her new cookbook "A Boat, a Whale, and a Walrus" (Sasquatch Books). To celebrate, French will prepare dishes inspired by two chapters of the book: A Normandy Dinner and A Wood-Fired Dinner. Tickets are now on sale for the event, which is Oct. 16 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Cost is $60 and includes a signed copy of the book.
