It's not the move we would have predicted, but we've never been good at fortune-telling. Still, it comes as a bit of a surprise to hear that Patrick McKee, who recently left his post as executive chef of Paley's Place after a 10-year stint in the kitchen, is now the sous chef at Laurelhurst Market.
Although we expected McKee to step into another head chef role, his social media accounts are brimming with excitement about his new post and another chance to work with LM's executive chef Ben Bettinger, who just took over the reins in September. The two worked together at Paley's from McKee's arrival in 2004 to Bettinger's departure in 2008. And with bartender Kevin Ludwig now behind the stick (he departed Paley's for Park Kitchen in 2003), Laurelhurst Market has become something of a Paley's Place reunion special.
A couple weeks ago we sat down with Bettinger and Ludwig, who had launched Beaker and Flask together, to see what they have in store for Laurelhurst Market. We can't wait to see what McKee will bring to the table.
