Esquire Magazine has announced its Best New Restaurants in America 2015, and this year, Portland gets recognition in the form of Muscadine, the NE Prescott brunch and lunch restaurant run by Laura Rhoman and her wife, Libby. Based on Laura's Mississippi upbringing, the menu bounces from classic beignets to sockeye salmon croquettes, and Esquire considers the Cochon the most standout dish: a smoked pork fritter served with poached egg, sweet-and-sour slaw, crispy potatoes, and Carolina Gold BBQ Sauce.

Portlanders excited to try Muscadine for the first time will have to wait for now. Esquire published its news on October 13, and Muscadine is closed October 12 to 21 "to attend the Southern Foodways Alliance Symposium in Oxford, MS," according to its website. Likely full of inspiration from the symposium, Laura and Libby Rhoman will return to exclamations of "Congratulations" and hordes of diners who are all the more hungry because they had to wait.
