Hokusei recently expand its hours and brought late-night izakaya to the SE Belmont neighborhood. The new menu features mostly traditional Japanese small plates, though you will find several of the restaurant's signature Northwest tweaks on there, too (full menu below).
Offered Thursday through Saturday from 10 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., Hokusei's late-night will be updated weekly but will always include the name-your-price Dealer's Choice option. "It's a good value. If everyone settles on $15 each, they probably get closer to $25," owner and head chef Cody Auger told Eater by phone. "We'll send out small plates sort of like Spanish tapas are served in Spain."
Auger rolled out the late-night menu to offer an alternative to "typical bar food or fried food." The restaurant's late-night izakaya will run indefinitely, and next Thursday, Hokusei will add a single bowl of ramen to the menu, which will also be updated regularly.
