Today, Gonzo, the Israel street food eatery and former food cart, moves into downtown's Bar XV, to serve its gut-bomb Shawarma Fries—think Middle Eastern poutine—and crispy falafel sandwiches. Gonzo has been looking for a permanent home since rolling away from Base Camp Brewing this spring. Now, owner Tal Caspi tells Eater he'll serve his well-known regular menu at Bar XV, the divy, loungy, nightclubby spot, six days a week, Tuesday through Sunday, from 4 p.m. to late.
Another kitchen takeover, Hunnymilk announces brunch at Hogan's Goat Pizza, the disturbingly named Northeast pizzeria recently under the direction of Jason Blair. Hunnymilk is a bakery and ice cream shop owned by Brandon Weeks, who trained at Charlie Trotter (Chicago) and Bouchon (Yountville) and has worked pastry at Urban Farmer, Portland City Grill, and, most recently, The Painted Lady. Now, every Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m to 2 p.m., he's serving a three-part $20 brunch that comes with a drink and savory and sweet courses. Expect Hunnymilk's ice cream to make an appearance with crepes and french toast, as well as savory dishes like a scotch egg served with sourdough romesco and seasonal veggies.
