Today, Ataula owners Jose Chesa and Cristina Baez announced their 12-seat churro and drinking chocolate shop 180 will open mid-December at 2218 NE Broadway. Chesa and Baez are teaming up with David Martin, and the 500-square-foot 180 will serve Spain's lighter xurros with a signature hot chocolate made for the shop by Portland-based Cocanú. On top of all this, 180 is hyping churros as the ideal hangover cure.
Chesa alluded to the churro-hangover connection when speaking with Eater back in August, and today, Baez told the Oregonian churros are "the best hangover snack," adding that the clubs in Spain close at 8 a.m. and the churro stands always start frying at 5 a.m. to meet demand.
Test them out for yourself mid-December. No news was released regarding Chesa, the paella-focused restaurant that will eventually open adjacent to 180.
