Starting tomorrow, Northwest's Hotel deLuxe will serve a proper English-style afternoon tea in its hotel dining room with assists from Smith Teamaker, Bull in China, and Townshend's Tea's distilling project, Thomas and Sons Distillery. It'll be a fancy affair with hotel "tea sommelier" Kaitlin Dover (accredited by the International Tea Masters Association), and in addition to tea and sandwiches, it offers cocktails involving tea-infused liqueurs made table-side via roving cocktail cart.
As the menu below shows, you'll find Smith teas including two signature blends made special for the hotel. The sandwiches mostly stick to the classics, like James Beard's famous onion and butter sandwich, and you'll also find scones served with clotted cream and pastries. For herbal cocktails, Thomas and Sons Distillery produces a variety of tea-infused liqueurs (think Italian amari). Advised by Bull in China, Hotel deLuxe will use Townshend's White Rose, featuring white tea and rose petals, and Bluebird, a warming "Alpine" spirit, to reinvent cocktails like the Tom Collins.
Afternoon Tea at Hotel deLuxe kicks off December 1 and runs Sunday to Thursday. Book your seating, choosing between 3, 3:15, and 3:30 p.m., at least 24 hours in advance. It costs $39 for adults and $18 for kids. Adult beverages are a la carte.
