Angel Teta, Ataula's master bartender (and Eater Portland's 2014 Bartender of the Year), is a force of nature. Last week she concocted a set of custom cocktails featuring things like sous vide spirits and compressed apples for Chefs Week's West Coast Modern dinner. Then she took time out to film this video, in which she demonstrates how to make an old, obscure, yet totally Valentine's appropriate sparkly cocktail called the Buck and Breck.
And then, no big deal, she headed to Seattle to compete in Speed Rack, a national competition for female bartenders, which raises money for breast cancer charities. The competition was fierce on Sunday, as Teta was up against some of the best ladies in the business. But for the second year in a row, she took home the gold and will be heading to New York in June to represent the Pacific Northwest in the national finals.
To get a taste of how intense (and fun) the competition is, you can take a look at videos from previous seasons. But if you actually want to learn a thing or two from Teta herself, check out the video above. And if you want to see her make it in person, head to the Allison Inn's Cuvee Weekend Feb. 27-28 and March 20-21.
