Dan Cogan was aiming for a soft opening, but he got a hard one instead. On Sunday, he opened the doors to Batter, Griddle and Drinkery, his new all-day, late-night pancake and cocktail house, and the feverish demand for his often over-the-top hotcakes prompted almost two-hour waits and an early closure. The outcome was hardly a surprise, though, considering it's Portland, it's brunch, and it's new.
The rest of the week, while the staff works out the kinks, the restaurant's hours fluctuate from just nights (today and Wednesday) to just mornings (Tuesday), until Thursday and Friday when it offers its promised (and impressive) span of morning to morning.
The menu is built on batter in various forms, including, hotcakes, waffles and crepes, all topped and stuffed with a wide range of sweet, savory and oddball combinations. The 65-seat restaurant also has a full bar.
Batter, Griddle and Drinkery's hours: Monday-Thursday 7 a.m. - 11 p.m., Friday 7 a.m. - 1 a.m., Saturday 8 a.m. - 1 a.m., Sunday 8 a.m. - 11 p.m.
