In mid-March, Sustainable Restaurant Group, owner of Bamboo Sushi and Bamboo Izakaya, announced it was going to shutter the six-month-old izakaya on NE Alberta and turn it into the third outpost of Bamboo Sushi. According to founder Kristofer Lofgren, the public was more interested in sushi than skewers cooked on authentic binchotan charcoal grills. After a brief closure that began on March 21, the restaurant is reopening today with a slight renovation and new menu. Check out the before and after pictures.
Lofgren says the new menu features about five dishes from the izakaya: eggplant, asparagus salad, green salad, black cod, and budino. "We will rotate in, over time, more items from the izakaya as we see what has appeal," he says. He also points out that the sushi can be ordered online and delivered to your house through Postmates delivery service. Stay tuned for details on the West End space that was supposed to become Bamboo Izakaya #2.
