Vice Network's food-focused Munchies videos take a walk through Oregon territory this week, with a five-part series that focuses on the state's culinary wonders.
Kicking things off today is a video titled Portland Victory. Host Gabi Chai, a recent transplant and fishmonger, meets up with some heavy hitters on her food tour through town. Although it's the same top-10 types of places you see on every list, the twist is that viewers get to see the people behind the names — in action. There's Nong Poonsukwattana dishing up her khao man gai. There's Dustin Knox making a crepe at Perierra. And there's Duane Sorenson, making a pour-over at the original Stumptown and discussing the effects of caffeine on beard growth.
Best of all, she goes shopping with Gabe Rucker and helps him cook an Asian dinner for his friends and family. You will see a very cute baby eating a lime, which is really all the incentive you need to watch this video.
Head back to Munchies each day this week to catch each episode through Friday. Keep in mind this is a Vice joint, so a trip to a vegan strip club in the next episode should be no surprise. Later this week, tune in for trips to the Willamette Valley wine country, the coast and central Oregon.
