Locale Cafe Shoots For August 1 Opening Date

The new venture teams up veterans of Ninkasi Brewing Company and Heart Coffee Roasters.

Locale, a new 15-seat cafe courtesy of Erik Spellmeyer (Ninkasi Brewing) and Dustin Wight (Heart Coffee Roasters) could be opening its doors as early as late summer on the 4000 block of N Mississippi Avenue, according to Spellmeyer.

The cafe will serve espresso drinks (via Heart and another as-yet-undetermined roaster), four beer taps devoted to Oregon craft beers (save one dedicated to Spellmeyer's all-time favorite beer, Pilsner Urquell) and small plates like salads, meat and cheese boards and house-baked pastries, cookies and easy-to-make breads (think pumpkin and banana).

The cafe should also have about 10 sidewalk seats for those wanting to sip on something hot (or cold) while taking in a book on a warm, sunny day.

And don't expect an order-at-the-counter joint: Spellmeyer says the goal is to provide the kind of professional table service you would expect while visiting the cafes of Europe.

If all goes according to plan, the space should open by August 1.
