Oba, the Pearl District's venerable Latin American restaurant, has a new executive chef with a San Francisco pedigree. Luis Contreras was the executive chef at San Francisco's award-winning Mamacita for six years, and more recently at its sister restaurant, Padrecito, for the past two years. While under his direction, both were awarded three stars by Michael Bauer of the San Francisco Chronicle, and Mamacita won a Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand Award three times.
Contreras has revamped Oba's menu, adding more modern, seasonal Latin American dishes like ahi jicama tacos, and hanger steak topped with watercress and chimichurri.
