Don't Worry, Blue Star Donuts in Northwest Isn't Closing

The paper over the windows and construction vehicles out front are temporary

Put your brioche-batter-doughnut consumption on hold. At least on NW 23rd. The Northwest location of Blue Star Donuts is currently shuttered thanks to moisture that crept under the underground carpet. Owner Katie Poppe explained to Eater via email that the moisture caused the floor tiles to explode. Poppe says that the Blue Star Donuts location should reopen tomorrow, August 12, but exploding tiles and underground carpeting sound rather dramatic, so best to keep an eye on Blue Star's Facebook page.

Upon opening in Portland in 2012, Blue Star Donuts quickly made a name for itself for making buttery doughnuts using traditional, French brioche batter. Now internationally recognized, its recent concoctions include such wacked out creativity as blueberry bourbon doughnuts and vegan pistachio cake with raspberry hibiscus. Poppe owns Blue Star Donuts with Micah Camden, and together, they also own Son of a Biscuit and Boxer Ramen. A couple of weeks ago, they sold their Little Big Burger franchise and opened a new gourmet hot dog spot in the Pearl, Hop Dog.
