Soon-To-Hit-Hawthorne Ruby Jewel Ice Cream Parlor Confirms Opening Date

All of the construction on SE Hawthorne has resulted in more than just fancy apartments.

Ruby Jewel

At noon this Saturday, August 29, the long awaited Ruby Jewel will open at 4703 SE Hawthorne Blvd. next to Por Que No (and near Apizza Scholls). It's the first Eastside location for the North Portland-based ice cream parlor, which specializes in more than just scoops. It serves such ice cream sandwiches as Double Chocolate Cookie with Peanut Butter ice cream and Lemon Cookie with Honey Lavender, and sundaes with Caramel Bacon Brittle and Brown Sugar Sour Cream ice creams.

On opening day, a portion of the proceeds will go to Raphael House, a domestic violence agency in the neighborhood.

Ruby Jewel announced the news of its opening date on Facebook yesterday evening, and its new 955-square-foot space will be ground-level and have outdoor seating. Designed by LRS Architects, it will have a charred wood exterior, and the location will serve the full menu and sell various items to go, including pints and sandwiches. Just like its other locations, Ruby Jewel on Hawthorne will be open Sunday-Thursday noon-10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday noon-11 p.m.

Ruby Jewel began serving its sweet and creamy flavors in 2004, when Lisa Herlinger began showing up on the farmers market circuit. Her creations grabbed national attention, including from the Food Network and Oprah Magazine, and today, you'll likely find Ruby Jewel flavors in your neighborhood gourmet grocery, as well as in gourmet grocery stores from Hawaii to Texas.
