The Pearl's newly opened Palmetto Café, a rather ingenious move from Tobias Hogan and Ethan Powell of EaT: Oyster Bar and The Parish, has settled on just what to serve in order to complement The Parish, located next door. Speaking with Eater by phone, Hogan explained that the café has been testing out menu items since opening in July.
Opening at 8 a.m. daily, Palmetto Café will serve on-the-go breakfast sandwiches, pastries, and coffees, as well as full breakfast plates, including The Parish's well-known Shrimp 'n' Grits with a poached egg. For lunch, it will serve oysters and a wide selection of well-priced salads, sandwiches, and entrees, including Chorizo Mac 'n' Cheese and something called the Oyster Loaf: fried oysters atop Pullman bread with "comeback sauce." You can get both breakfast and lunch plates daily from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
And it doesn't stop there. Each day, a seven-hour happy hour begins at 3 p.m. To make sure that it doesn't step on the toes of its Creole-cooking sister-restaurant The Parish, Palmetto serves small plates, most of which cost around $5, with cocktails and wines for $6 a glass.
