FREE FOOD CART -- In a hardcore contest, Happy Valley Station food cart pod is raffling off a food cart worth $30,000. Entry costs $100, and five finalists will be selected at random "out of a barrel" on November 15. On December 5, each of the finalists will present five samples of their food to judges, and then, from December 5 to 18, the people get to vote for a winner via social media. After all the hard work, one lucky winner will be announced on Christmas Eve.
It sounds like a great opportunity for a dedicated chef and, for the rest of us, a lot of fun to watch.
AMAZON -- Just for us Portlanders, Amazon is offering free grocery deliveries from local grocery stories through Amazon Prime Now. The new app lets you order from New Seasons Market, Uwajimaya, World Foods, and other stores and have groceries arrive on your doorstep within 2 hours.
RANSOM WINE & SPIRITS -- In the coming months, Ransom Wine & Spirits will open a tasting room at 525 NE 3rd St in McMinnville in a space with Peirano & Daughters Deli. Ransom is known for its old-school hands-on approach to making booze, and its rather huge portfolio includes whiskeys, gins, vermouths, pinot noir, cabernet franc, and more—all of which will be showcased in the tasting room. Artworks by local and international artists will rotate, and Art Tierce, formerly of Teardrop Lounge, will make bartending appearances from time to time.
