Still aiming for a December opening, Providore Fine Foods will be a marketplace and dining spot in the Kerns neighborhood at 2340 NE Sandy Blvd, located beside the Ocean complex (The Sudra, Tails & Trotters). Pastaworks, the gourmet European market with locations on Hawthorne and NW 21st, leads the project. Inside, you'll find European and local delicacies, a fish and wild game market by Flying Fish Co., flowers by Emerald Petals, and a produce market. Likely, a "special" bakery will also join the party.
To all of this, add in-market dining options and a large dining area looking out onto NE Sandy. Massive garage doors from the building's previous incarnation as a car dealership will go up for al fresco dining in warm weather. For now, future menu options will include oysters from the Flying Fish oyster bar; Italian-style rotisserie chicken from Pastawork's new Arrosto restaurant; and a variety of wines, pastas, sandwiches, and charcuterie boards from Pastaworks proper.
Taking Eater on a tour, Kaie Wellman, who owns Pastaworks with husband Kevin de Garmo, said that the market will have an open layout with different purveyors selling their goods side-by-side. It's roughly 5,000 square feet (to compare, the Hawthorne location is around 7,000 square feet), and Pastaworks will take up about half of this.
An event space will be at the back of the room, where shoppers can partake in Pastaworks' in-store wine tastings. Pastaworks also intends to bring back its cooking classes, which have somewhat petered out since Evoe was replaced by Nodoguro inside Pastaworks Hawthorne. Arrosto will be located in the same building but around the corner from the marketplace, viz. the parking lot, and it will likely function as a takeaway window.
Stay tuned, as Wellman will soon unveil more Arrosto details.
