BLIND CAFE -- The Boulder-based Blind Cafe pop-up dinner series lets you dine with strangers in the complete dark and enjoy a musical performance to boot. After previous sold-out dinners in Portland, it's coming to the Alberta Abbey at 126 NE Alberta St on October 1-3, and the idea is to share in the experience of blindness, so expect communal tables and discussions plus multiple courses. RUTH REICHL -- When Gourmet Magazine went out of business in 2009, Ruth Reichl lost her magazine and job, and her new book My Kitchen Year focuses on her recovery through cooking. Hear Reichl read from the cookbook and memoir at Powell's Books at Cedar Hills Crossing October 10. It's free, so show up early. [EaterWire]
