Ambitious barrel-aging programs have nearly become synonymous with Portland cocktail bars, but Water Avenue Coffee is bringing barrel aging to coffee. The just-released Pinot Aged El Salvador is made from green coffee beans that have spent time in pinot noir-soaked barrels from Sokol Blosser Winery in Willamette Valley. Water Avenue Coffee is currently pouring the barrel-aged coffee in its coffee bar at 1028 SE Water Ave, and it is also selling it in its online store.
Coffee beans excel at absorbing nearby aromas, and in its press release, Water Avenue Coffee wrote that its Pinot Aged El Salvador has "subtle hints of wine" and "rich chocolate and nut notes." For those who spent a late night out quaffing fine pinot noir, this might just be the pick-me-up you've been looking for.
