NORTHWEST—Matt Ross has stepped up to fill executive chef Ryan Mead's (clarklewis, Park Kitchen) shoes at The Bent Brick. Mead left the restaurant to returned to his home state of Michigan to escape the Portland Restaurant Apocalypse, and Ross brings stage experience at renowned Arzak and experience at Grain & Gristle, Park Kitchen, and Raven & Rose. FOREST GROVE—Run by "a bunch of local families from O'ahu headed by Chef Kevin Yamada," according to the website, Kama'aina is opening Saturday, January 30, to serve Hawaii-inspired dishes like poke, fried chicken curry, Kahuku-style garlic shrimp, and platters of Hawaiian-style meats and seafood. Community-minded Yamada studied at Culinary Institute of the Pacific, and you can get tickets to the grand opening on the website. [Oregonian]
