The Hungry Heart Bakery, specializing in cupcakes and located just around the corner from The Country Cat at 414 SE 80th Ave., just rocked the Cooking Channel's Sugar Showdown, winning $10,000. Owner Jax Button opened the bakery in February 2015 after operating a successful food cart, and on Sugar Showdown, she said she'll use the money to purchase new equipment, including a refrigerator and delivery truck.
"We're really excited about this win and are so proud that we were able to represent Portland," Button tells Eater. Taking pride in her up-and-coming Montavilla neighborhood, Buttons says the win is the second time a Montavilla restaurant won a television show, referencing Jackie and Adam Sappington's Chopped win in 2015.
Sugar Showdown is a new cooking show from the Cooking Channel, and Button competed in episode 13 of season 1. Watch her cupcakes decimate the competition:
