SOUTHEAST—When SE Belmont's Hokusei sushi restaurant announced it will close December 30, it hinted at a future dinner series, and this Friday and Saturday, Hokusei will hold two 7 p.m. dinners featuring 12 to 15 courses of seasonal nigiri in the former Hokusei restaurant space (4246 S.E. Belmont St.). The dinners cost $95 and are limited to eight diners each, so make reservations fast by writing to hokuseipdx@gmail.com. Chef Cody Auger says the dinner series will continue almost weekly for now. [Oregonian]
PORTLAND—It's Elvis Presley's birthday tomorrow, and thanks to Salt & Straw, you'll be able to eat an Elvis-inspired ice cream flavor and hang with The King himself (you can even take a selfie with him). Decadently enough, the flavor is based on Elvis's famous heart-attack-inducing sandwich, a grilled peanut butter, bacon, and banana sandwich. Find Elvis and his ice cream at the SE Division shop from 3 to 4 p.m.; NE Alberta shop from 8 to 9 p.m.; and NW 23rd shop from 9:30 to 10:30 p.m. [EaterWire]
PORTLAND—If you thought tobacco and candy products were becoming similar, how about alcohol and soda? MillerCoors announced earlier this week that it is releasing hard sodas under the Henry Weinhard's brand. That's right, you can now get boozy root beer and boozy orange soda. [New School Beer]
