The latest restaurant to offer a quality-minded take on fast food is poised to open on NW 23rd. ChkChk is the fourth restaurant from up-and-coming restaurateurs Aaron and Jessica Grimmer (The Picnic House, Barlow, High Noon), and they tell Eater ChkChk has set its grand opening for February 5. Menu details are still shaping up, but the restaurant will focus on two sandwiches: a fried chicken sandwich and a fried chickpea sandwich, both of which will come in a variety of theoretically lip-smacking sauces (ch-ch-check out the pic below). Add to that just waffle fries, a seasonal salad, and beverages, including beer, and ChkChk is one seriously streamlined restaurant concept.
Offering counter service, ChkChk will open at 1305 NW 23rd Ave. where the Subway used to be. As part of its business model, it has pledged a charitable mission, giving five percent of all gross sales to local Portland groups.
