The expansive food cart pod on SE 82nd Avenue, Cartlandia, has been vandalized, making it the third Southeast Portland food cart pod to be broken into this week. According to KATU, the vandals hit seven food carts at Cartlandia. The manager says very little damage was caused.
Earlier this week, the Portland Mercado and Carts on Foster pods were both robbed and vandalized on SE Foster Road. An estimated $25,000 in damage was caused at the Portland Mercado, and today, the City of Portland issued a grant for $20,000 to help the food carts recover.
All of the carts at Portland Mercado are back up and running, and as of yesterday, the majority of the food carts at Carts on Foster were back in business. Speaking with Eater on Tuesday, the owner of Fernando’s Alegria at the Mercado, Fernando Rodriguez, said winter months are the hardest for food carts. Today, Cartlandia wrote on Facebook, “Please come out and support our carts during this difficult time. We have trick and treating this Monday.”
